Numerous studies on the process of learning Motivational Interviewing have established that, for most people, the most effective way to learn the method is through coached practice. While this can be done in the context of a formal training, much more thorough feedback is possible through the practice of submitting audio-recorded conversations to a specialist who is trained in coding and assessing MI conversations.
The coding team at Jope Consulting Services have all been trained to code MI conversations by Denise Ernst and Terri Moyers, developers of the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity Code (MITI). They will work from your recording to build a picture of your strengths and areas for further development, and provide you with written feedback including guidance on next steps and referrals to helpful resources.
If you are interested in coding and feedback services, please note the submission guidelines below and send an email to Linda at linda@jopeconsultingservices.com for availability and scheduling.
Submission guidelines:
1. Recorded sessions should be at least twenty minutes in length. A random twenty-minute section of the recording will be coded, in accordance with established coding recommendations.
2. Recorded sessions should be in an audio format in common use in the US and playable via VLC Media Player.
3. Arrangements must be made with Linda before submission (see above).
4. If the audio quality of the submission is inadequate for coding purposes, the submission will not be coded and the client will not be charged.
